The Bay Area just got a whole lot swaggier with the Golden State Warriors addition of Nick Young.
In what might be the biggest Woj bomb of the offseason, it’s been reported that Nick Young is going to sign with Golden State for $5.2 million for next year. The Warriors have only gotten better since the summer started. It began with signing Stephen Curry to the biggest deal in NBA history. Next, Andre Iguodala wanted to get his payday. And he did. The most recent signing before Young was Kevin Durant, who took an enormous pay cut to make room for Iguodala.
It’s only right that the Dubs bring back JaVale McGee. Honestly, you wouldn’t want to see Swaggy P pass the Larry O’Brien trophy to the Shaqtin’ A Fool legend next summer? I don’t think you like basketball.

I know I’m being funny, but the best part about this deal is that Nick Young is a solid player — especially for Golden State. Last year with the Los Angeles Lakers, before being shut down for the young guys, Young averaged 13.2 points in 25.9 minutes and shot 40.4 percent from three-point land. If that’s not enticing enough, he made 170 in the 60 games he played. That worked out to an average of 2.8 a night, tying him with Ryan Anderson for seventh on the NBA’s leaderboard.
Young may not do much else, but the Warriors don’t need him to. They’re set. Having guys like Curry, Klay Thompson, Kevin Durant and Draymond Green means the role players can get a bulk of minutes and not have to even think about doing something other than what they were brought on for. Take McGee, for instance. He comes in and gives them energy and rim protection even if it’s for 12 minutes. With Young, he’ll provide floor balance and an electrifying option from outside.
Most importantly, I think Durant loves this move.
